PROCLAMATION

By His Honor William Cargill,
Esquire, Superintendent of the
Province of Otago.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance passed
by the Superintendent and
Provincial Council of the Province
of Otago, intituled "An Ordinance to establish and regulate Ferries, Session I,
No. 8," it is among other things enacted that "It shall be lawful for the Superintendent to authorise Ferries to be established and erected at convenient places on the rivers, creeks, and lakes, within the Province of Otago, for the conveyance of passengers, animals and goods across the same;" and whereas by section 3 of the "Ferries Ordinance Amendment Ordinance, 1856," passed by the said Superintendent and Council, it is enacted that "Every Ferry shall be deemed to be a Public Ferry within the meaning of this Ordinance, which shall be proclaimed to be such by the Superintendent, with the advice and consent of his Executive Council, by proclamation to be inserted in the Provincial Government Gazette;" and whereas it is expedient that the Ferry established at or near the mouth of the Mataura River, in the Province of Otago, and known by the name of the Toi Toies Ferry, should be proclaimed a Public Ferry: Now, therefore, I, the said Superintendent, with the advice and consent of my Executive Council, do hereby, in virtue of the powers vested in me by the said Ordinances, proclaim the said Ferry to be a Public Ferry within the meaning of the before recited "Ferries Ordinance Amendment Ordinance, 1856."

NOTICE

TOI TOIES FERRY

By virtue of the powers in me vested by the "Ferries Ordinance, 1856,"
I, the Superintendent of the Province of Otago, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, do hereby give notice that the authorised Fares chargeable at the Toi Toies Ferry for persons, animals, and goods conveyed across the same, are the following, viz:

From sunrise till one hour after sunset:

For each person 2 0
Horse, Mule, or Ass 2 0
head of Great Cattle 2 0
Sheep, Goat, or Hog, when under 20 0 4
Sheep, Goat, or Hog, when 20 and upwards 0 2
Goods at the rate of 1s. per cwt.

From one hour after sunset till sunrise the above Fares and Freights, and one-half more, shall be charged.

Further, I hereby give notice that the Mail, and persons exhibiting a certificate under the hand of the Superintendent that they are on duty under the employment of the Government, are exempt from the payment of said Fares and Freights.
