HIS Honor THE SUPERINTENDENT has been pleased to direct the re-publication of the following Proclamation and Notifications from the New Government Zealand Gazette, of date 28th January, 1857.

PROCLAMATION
By His Excellency Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, Companion of the most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c.
WHEREAS by an Act passed by the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled “The Counties Act, 1856,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor on the recommendation of the Superintendent of any Province of the said Colony from time to time by proclamation to be published in the Government Gazette of the Colony to divide such Province into Counties, and that all such Counties shall have such designation and limits as in and by the Proclamation constituting the same shall be prescribed.
Now therefore, I, the Governor of New Zealand, on the recommendation of the Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do proclaim and declare that I do hereby provide the said Province of Otago, into two Counties, to be designated respectively “The Bruce County,” and “Wallace County,” and the limits of the said Counties respectively shall be as follows:—
Of the Bruce County,
On the North the Province of Canterbury, on the West the 169th degree of longitude East from Greenwich, and on the East and South the Sea.
Of Wallace County,
On the North the Province of Canterbury, on the East the 169th degree of longitude East from Greenwich, and on the West and South the Sea.
Given under my hand and issued under the Public Seal of the Colony of New Zealand, at Auckland, in the Colony aforesaid, this twenty-fourth day of January, in the Year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty-seven.
