presented to me for the assent of His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand on the 18th March, 1856, and was then reserved by me for His Excellency’s assent or disallowance: And Whereas His Excellency has been pleased to assent to the said Ordinance;

Now I, the said William Cargill, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby proclaim that His Excellency Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, the Governor of New Zealand, has assented to the said Ordinance, and that I received the signification of His Excellency’s assent on the 27th day of May, 1856.

Given under my hand at Auckland, in New Zealand, this 29th day of May, 1856.

Now therefore I, the Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance of the authority vested in me in that behalf by the said recited Act of Parliament, do hereby proclaim and declare my disallowance of the said recited Ordinance.

Given under my hand and issued under the Public Seal of the Islands of New Zealand, at Auckland, in the Islands aforesaid, this fifth day of June, in the nineteenth year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, and in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-six.

By His Excellency Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, Companion of the most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, &c. &c.

Colonial Secretary’s Office, Auckland, 17th June, 1856.

His Excellency the Governor directs it to be notified for general information, that EDMUND HOOKE WILSON BELLAIRS, Esquire, having for two successive sessions of the General Assembly, without the permission of Her Majesty or of the Governor, signified by the Governor to the Legislative Council, failed to give his attendance in the said Legislative Council, his seat in the said Council has thereby become vacant.
