EXCESS OF EXPENDITURE (1853-54) ORDINANCE.

In the Eighteenth Year of the Reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria.

SESSION II., No. 6.

ANALYSIS.

  1. Provincial Treasurer to be allowed to take credit for sums expended beyond the amount authorised by Appropriation Ordinances.

AN ORDINANCE to authorise the Provincial Treasurer to take credit for certain sums paid for the services of the Government in excess of the sums allowed by the "Appropriation Ordinance," Session I., No. 2, and the "Appropriation Ordinance (Supplementary)" Session I., No. 7, of the Provincial Council of Otago.

WHEREAS various sums of money have been necessarily expended for the service of the Government of the Province of Otago during the year ending on the thirtieth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-four, beyond the amounts duly authorised to have been expended, in consequence of the Estimates for said year having been prepared without the requisite experience, and it is now expedient that the Provincial Treasurer be authorised to take credit for the money expended.

BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the Superintendent of the said Province, with the advice and consent of the Provincial Council thereof, as follows:—

  1. The Provincial Treasurer shall be allowed, and is hereby authorised, to take credit in his accounts for the several sums of money beyond the amounts respectively authorised by the said "Appropriation Ordinance," Session I., No. 2, and the "Appropriation Ordinance (Supplementary)" Session I., No. 7, which have been or shall be paid in pursuance of warrants by the Superintendent, for the public service of the year ending at 30th September, 1854, to the extent specified in the Schedule hereunto annexed, and the receipt or receipts of the respective persons to whom the same were or shall be so paid, shall be a full and valid discharge to the said Treasurer in passing his accounts for any such sum or sums of money as shall be therein mentioned.
