HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT directs the following Correspondence to be published for the information of the Board of Commissioners and satisfaction of the public:
By His Honor's Command,
William H. Reynolds,
Provincial Secretary.
Superintendent's Office, Dunedin, 14th July, 1854.
SIR,—I have the honor to transmit herewith a Memorial addressed to His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government of Otago appearing against the appropriation of Moray Place—a public reserve in the Town of Dunedin—as the site of a proposed Episcopalian Church; and calling upon the Government to furnish His Excellency with any observations thereon.
I have the honor to enclose the Otago Ordinance, Session I. No. 6, as containing, in its preamble and section 14, my delineration upon the subject, and to submit to His Excellency that the appropriation of Moray Place, as lately advertised by the Provincial Government, is an act beyond the powers vested by the Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of Otago.
The Memorial is herewith returned.
I have the honor, &c.,
(Signed) W. Cargill,
Superintendent.
The Hon. the Colonial Secretary,

In reply to your Honor's dispatch dated 15th March last, received on the 25th ult., relative to the Memorial of the Otago Provincial Council against the appropriation of Moray Place, as a public reserve in Dunedin, as the site of a proposed Episcopalian Church; and in reply, His Excellency begs to inform your Honor that Government does not intend to comply with the request of the Memorialists, in so far as it may be construed to make over the reserve in question for any purpose officially indicated.
I have the honor, &c.,
(Signed) Andrew Sinclair,
Colonial Secretary.
