there to be kept and depastured. These are therefore in pursuance of the above recited Ordinance, to authorize, require, and direct you aforesaid to drive, or cause to be driven, all such sheep or lambs, or to any part thereof, as aforesaid found trespassing (here point out the nearest or most convenient yards, or that by which they are the least likely to spread the infection.) RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS for Inspectors of Sheep, under the Otago “Scab” and Catarrh Ordinance, Session I., No. 11.
1st. Inspectors will immediately acquaint themselves with the boundary line of their respective districts, and arrange their visits, keeping nightly beforehand, and be at all times ready to act on the arrival of any vessel with sheep.
2nd. He will keep himself informed as to the state of flocks in the neighbourhood, to guard against infection being either given or received in the land or after movements of sheep.
3rd. He will immediately board every vessel arriving with sheep, showing his authority and his duties under the Ordinance, particularly at Section 14. If he finds the sheep to be infected, he will immediately give notice thereof to the Superintendent, and give his opinion as to the best means of preventing the spread of infection to report the same, with such information as shall enable the Justice or Justices applied to, to grant warrant for their being landed with the least delay compatible with general safety.
- He ought, as far as possible, by previous communication to ensure the general sanitary condition of the landing place and sheds, and also to have the premises immediately cleansed and disinfected after shipment.
5th. Within 24 hours of the sheep being landed he will report in writing, by earliest means of conveyance, to the Provincial Secretary, the landing of each cargo stating the number’s and classes if contained, if clean or unclean, and by whom imported — adding such remarks as may be specially called for, or deemed in any way useful by the Inspector for the information to be communicated.
- In cases where sheep are employed in five-day journeys, the Inspector at the landing and loading of sheep will be especially required to see that they are not unnecessarily detained, and that every precaution be taken to prevent fire (if any) being carried by a Justice of the Peace, in the district where the duty shall have been done.
7th. Inspectors when called upon by any Justice of the Peace to inspect sheep or runs are to be remunerated at the rate of 15s. a day in town and 10s. a day in the country. No Inspector will be entitled to the above rate unless authorised by the Superintendent or the officer having charge of a coat which may be liable to be used to inspect the general diseases than ten miles inland or ten miles line.
These Rules do not interfere with, or in any way affect, the bonded or inwards vessels from passing their entries, or conforming with the Customs regulations for the time being.

directs it to be notified for general information, that a Writ for the election of a Member of the Provincial Council for the District of Town of Dunedin, in the Province of Otago,
became issuable on the 1st day of June instant, in consequence of the resignation of William Henry Cutten, Esq., a Representative of the District in the Council of New Zealand.
The Returning-Officer for the said district has received instructions for the issue of the said Writ, with a view to the effect that the undermentioned gentleman has been duly elected to serve as a member of the said Provincial Council —
Lawson Cotton, Esq., of the Halfway Bush.
RULES AND BYE-LAWS for regulating the Duties of the Acting Committee appointed by the Board of Commissioners for the Management of Public Jetties, and Water Frontages in the Town of Dunedin, under the provisions of the Otago Harbour Board Loan Ordinance.

The Committee to consist of their own Chairman.

All meetings of Committee to be called by the Chairman, by advertisement in the public newspapers, giving at least four days notice of meeting.

A Jetty-keeper to be appointed by the Committee, the appointment and amount of salary to be subject to the approval of the Board.

The Committee shall exercise a general charge of Public Jetties and Water frontages, to re-construct the same. Board any necessary repairs, installations, &c., and when approved by the Board, to get the same executed; also to receive and reply to any communications or complaints made relative to Jetties, or Water frontages.

The Committee to keep minutes of their proceedings, and submit same monthly to the Board at its next meeting.

The Board may disallow any act of the Committee; such disallowance to be notified in a public newspaper, and to take effect from the date of publication, unless otherwise notified.
Jetty-Keeper’s Duties.
- The Jetty-keeper shall collect all Tolls, Dues, and Wharfages — keep correct accounts of the same, and pay the amount collected daily to the Chief Constable, who, at the end of each
