Amending a Notice—Notice of Scopes of Practice and Related Qualifications Prescribed by the Osteopathic Council

This notice is given pursuant to section 14(1) of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 ("Act") and comes into effect on 20 September 2017.

The Osteopathic Council ("Council") amends the notice titled "Notice of Scopes of Practice and Related Qualifications Prescribed by the Osteopathic Council" dated 31 January 2013 and published in the New Zealand Gazette, 31 January 2013, No. 11, page 398.

The following amendments are made to the original notice:

  1. Replacement of the title of point 3 to: "Vocational Scopes of Practice: Gerontology; Pain Management; and Child and Adolescent Health"; and
  2. the addition, under point 3, of a vocational scope of practice in Child and Adolescent Health, pursuant to section 11 of the Act, and notice of the prescribed qualifications for registration within that scope of practice, pursuant to section 12 of the Act, as set out below:

"Vocational scope of practice in Child and Adolescent Health

Osteopaths who are registered in the vocational scope of practice in child and adolescent health have obtained qualifications, in addition to their general osteopath qualification, that focus on the osteopathic treatment of 0–18 year olds.

Pursuant to section 12 of the Act, the Council has prescribed the following qualification for registration in the vocational scope of practice of child and adolescent health:

Applicants for registration in the vocational scope of practice in child and adolescent health must:

  1. be registered in the General Osteopathic scope of practice; and
  2. hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science in Child Health awarded by Auckland University of Technology."
