Pursuant to sections 47(3) and 395(3) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, the Director of Maritime New Zealand hereby notifies the granting, during the period from 22 November 2016 to 21 December 2016, of the following exemptions:

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 19.62(1) – Maritime Transport Operator – Certification and Responsibilities – Operating Requirements – Maritime transport operator responsible for safe ships – Valid Certificate of Survey issued under Rule 44.41.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.25(1) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – General crewing and other requirements – Duty of crew to hold certificates and to be able to demonstrate ancillary proficiencies – Specific certificate or endorsement or higher grade of certificate or endorsement.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.42(a) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Minimum watchkeeping and special crewing requirements – Prescribed endorsements or ancillary proficiencies as required by a Minimum Safe Crewing Document.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.42(c) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Minimum watchkeeping and special crewing requirements – Ships operating within coastal and offshore limits.

  • 4 from Maritime Rule 31.43(1)(a)–(b), Tables 2 and 3 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Unlimited area – Requirements for ships operating in unlimited areas to carry at least navigational and engine room watchkeepers as specified in Tables 2 and 3.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.44 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Coastal and offshore limits – Ships operating beyond restricted limits but within coastal limits or offshore limits must carry navigational or engine room watchkeepers.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.84(2) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Requirements as per Minimum Safe Crewing Document, and as specified in applicable tables and accompanying flowcharts.

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 31.84(2)(b)(i) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Ships other than ships to which subparts C and D apply – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Seafarers on board hold minimum requirement certificates and prescribed endorsements.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.84(4)(a), Table 10 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Passenger endorsement – Crewing for passenger ships – Inshore water limits.

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 31.84(4)(b), Table 11 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Applicable tables and flow-charts for passenger ships operating within enclosed water limits.
