Notice of Action Taken by the Electrical Workers Registration Board
The Registrar of the Electrical Workers Registration Board (“Board”), having been directed by the Board in
accordance with section 147Z(2) of the Electricity Act 1992 (“Act”), gives notice that Gordon David McLaren
(EAS 265899) has been disciplined by the Board under Part 11 of the Act.
Gordon David McLaren, in relation to work carried out at a property in New Plymouth during August 2015, was
found guilty of committing the following disciplinary offences:
Section 143(a)(ii) of the Act, in that he certified a Certificate of Compliance in breach of section 74 of the Act;
and
section 143(f) of the Act, in that he provided a false or misleading return in that he completed a Certificate of
Compliance for prescribed electrical work that was non-compliant and for work he was not authorised to carry
out or supervise.
Gordon David McLaren was suspended for a period of nine months under section 147M(1)(b)(i), ordered to pay a
fine of $3,000.00 under section 147M(1)(f) and ordered to pay costs of $1,000.00 under section 147N of the Act.

Notice of Action Taken by the Electrical Workers Registration Board
The Registrar of the Electrical Workers Registration Board (“Board”), having been directed by the Board in
accordance with section 147Z(2) of the Electricity Act 1992 (“Act”), gives notice that Thayalan Nalaraja
(EAS 117625) has been disciplined by the Board under Part 11 of the Act.
Thayalan Nalaraja, in relation to work carried out at a property in Auckland during May 2015 was found guilty of
committing the following disciplinary offences:
Section 143(b)(ii) of the Act, in that he installed a light switch with electrical supply from two different
distribution boards; and
section 143(c) of the Act, in that he failed to have complied with a term or condition of his registration or
licence, in that he:
- installed lighting and power point circuits;
- installed sub-boards; and
- installed circuits into the MEN system.
As a result of the above Thayalan Nalaraja:
- has had his registration cancelled (section 147(M)(1)(a)(i) of the Act) and he may not reapply for a period of
three years (section 147(M)(1)(a)(ii)); - was ordered to pay the Board $750.00, a sum the Board considers just and reasonable towards the costs and
expenses of and incidental to the hearing of the complaint by the Board (section 147N of the Act); and - will have his disciplinary actions taken under section 147M of the Act noted on the Register of Electrical
Workers for a period of three years.
