Pursuant to sections 47(3) and 395(3) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, the Director of Maritime New Zealand hereby notifies the granting, during the period from 19 August 2016 to 7 October 2016, of the following exemptions:

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 19.62(1) – Maritime Transport Operator – Certification and Responsibilities – Operating Requirements – Maritime transport operator responsible for safe ships – Valid Certificate of Survey issued under Rule 44.41

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.25(1) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – General crewing and other requirements – Duty of crew to hold certificates and to be able to demonstrate ancillary proficiencies – Specific certificate or endorsement or higher grade of certificate or endorsement

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.4 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Requirement to operate ships in accordance with this Part

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.42(b) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Minimum watchkeeping and special crewing requirements – Unlimited area, minimum crew holding prescribed certificates

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.43(1)(a)–(b), Tables 2 and 3 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Unlimited area – Requirements for ships operating in unlimited areas to carry at least navigational and engine room watchkeepers as specified in Tables 2 and 3

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 31.84(2)(b)(i) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Ships other than ships to which subparts C and D apply – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Seafarers on board hold minimum requirement certificates and prescribed endorsements

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.84(4)(a), Table 10 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Passenger endorsement – Crewing for Passenger ships – Inshore water limits

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40A.55(1), Appendix 3, 3.3(2)(b) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Fire-fighting appliances – Owner and master of a ship must ensure fire appliances are provided in accordance with requirements of Appendix 3 – Restricted limit ships – Non-portable foam and CO₂ extinguishers

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40A.56(1), Appendix 4, 4.3, Lifejackets (1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Life-saving appliances – Owner and master of a ship must ensure life-saving appliances are provided in accordance with requirements of Appendix 4 – Offshore and coastal limits ships

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40B.8 – Design, Construction and Equipment – SOLAS ships – Subdivision and stability – Subdivision and damage stability of non-passenger ships

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40B.17 – Design, Construction and Equipment – SOLAS ships – Fire appliances – Passenger ships – Comply with applicable requirements of Chapter II-2 of SOLAS

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 40B.20 – Design, Construction and Equipment – SOLAS ships – Life-saving appliances and arrangements – Ship requirements – Owner of ship must ensure that the ship is provided with life-saving appliances and arrangements specified by the applicable requirements of Chapter III of SOLAS

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.51(1), Appendix 2, 2.1 – Design, Construction and Equipment – Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – Fire-fighting appliances – Owner and master of a ship must ensure that fire
