Notification of Marine Protection Rules
In accordance with section 448 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, Maritime New Zealand gives notice of the making of the following marine protection rules:
Marine Protection Rules Part 300: Ballast Water Management 2015
These rules were signed on 1 March 2016, however they do not enter into force until one year following the accession to the Convention by New Zealand.
Although signed, the commencement of these Rules is suspended until applied by the Minister by further notice in the New Zealand Gazette.
Rules are available for inspection free of charge, or for purchase at a cost, from Maritime New Zealand, Level 11, 1 Grey Street, Wellington, or on the Maritime New Zealand website

Notice Relating to Material Incorporated by Reference in Marine Protection Rules
Pursuant to section 452 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, Maritime New Zealand (“Authority”) gives notice that the Part 300: Ballast Water Management of the marine protection rules, was signed on 1 March 2016, however do not enter into force until one year following the accession to the Convention by New Zealand. The commencement of these Rules is suspended until applied by the Minister by further notice in the New Zealand Gazette. Part 300 incorporates the following material by reference:
- International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments 2004
- The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS)
Availability of material for inspection
The material incorporated by reference described above is available for inspection by appointment free of charge at the Maritime New Zealand office listed below during the hours of 8.30am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday:

Availability of material for purchase
