Renewed Designations of Terrorist Entities

On 2 February 2016, pursuant to section 35 of the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002, the terrorist designations of Al-Shabaab, Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, and Partiya Kakeren Kurdistan were renewed.

On 9 February 2016, pursuant to section 35 of the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002, the terrorist designation of Euskadi Ta Askatasuna was renewed.

Any person who deals with the property of the entities listed below may be liable to prosecution for an offence under section 9 of the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002.

Organisations

Al-Shabaab (also known as Al Shabaab al-Islamiya, Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement, Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen et al); and

Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (also known as FARC and Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia); and

Partiya Karkeren Kurdistan (also known as PKK, Kongra Gel, Kongra Gele Kurdistan, Kurdistan Labour Party, Kurdistan People’s Congress, The Kurdistan Workers Party); and

Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (also known as ETA, Euzkadi Ta Azkatasuna, Euzkadi Ta Askatasuna, Basque Fatherland and Liberty, Basque Homeland and Liberty, Basque Nation and Liberty and Basque Homeland and Freedom).

The four statements of case for renewal are available on the New Zealand Police website www.police.govt.nz/advice/personal-community/counterterrorism/designated-entities

The designations of Al-Shabaab, FARC and PKK expire on 2 February 2019, and the designation of ETA expires on 9 February 2019, unless earlier revoked or extended pursuant to section 35 of the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002.

Any person may make a written submission to the director-general concerning this application.

Under sections 16 and 17 of the Act, a written submission:
