Notification of Ordinary Rule
Pursuant to section 161(3) of the Land Transport Act 1998, notification is hereby given of the making of the Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass 2016 ("VDAM Rule").
The VDAM Rule revokes and replaces the current Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass 2002. It sets vehicle size and weight limits, and vehicle configuration requirements, with a focus on heavy vehicles, and is intended to strike a reasonable balance between the risks that heavy vehicles present to public safety and the efficient operation of the heavy vehicle fleet within the constraints imposed by the road network. It comes into force on 1 February 2017.
The VDAM Rule is available for inspection, free of charge, at the National Office of the NZ Transport Agency, 50 Victoria Street, Wellington, and at the NZ Transport Agency’s regional offices. Bound copies of the Rule are available for purchase from selected bookshops that sell legislation and can also be purchased from Wickliffe NZ Limited, PO Box 932, Dunedin 9054 (telephone: (06) 358 8231).
Land Transport Rules are available on the website at

For further information about Land Transport Rules, contact the Rules Team, NZ Transport Agency, Private Bag 6995, Wellington 6141, or email rules@nzta.govt.nz.
