Geographic Name Alterations




NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE, No. 92 — 27 AUGUST 2015

Pursuant to section 16 of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008 ("Act"), notice was given in the New Zealand Gazette, 28 August 2014, No. 103, page 2874, of proposals by the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa ("Board") to alter existing geographic names.

The Board dealt with the submissions received for the proposals according to section 18 of the Act.

Having considered a report from the Board, I hereby declare that my final determinations, made pursuant to sections 20(2) and 20(3) of the Act, are to alter the existing geographic names as described in the Schedule below to official geographic names.

I made my decision on 12 August 2015.

My final determinations on these names takes effect on 27 August 2015.

Waiotahe Estuary Scenic Reserve Scenic Reserve A Crown protected area east of Ohiwa Beach Road and west of Waiotahi Beach Road. NZTopo50-BE40 678862. Alteration from Waiotahi Estuary Scenic Reserve, former official Crown protected area name by New Zealand Gazette, 14 July 2011, No. 105, page 3080.
Waiotahe Forest Forest A forest east of Waiotahi Valley Road, approximately 13km south-west of Opotiki and bounded to the east by Waioeka Forest. NZTopo50-BE40 689739. Alteration from Waiotahi Forest, former official geographic name by New Zealand Gazette, 23 January 1953, No. 3, page 88.
Waiotahe Knoll Knoll 37°05'S Latitude 177°16'E Longitude. An isolated conical undersea knoll rising to 719m from a depth of 1000m with an area of 28.70km². Located on the northern side of Ngātoro Ridge in the Bay of Plenty. Alteration from Waiotahi Knoll, former recorded undersea name. Depicted on Bay of Plenty Chart©, Wright 1989.
Waiotahe River River A river flowing north from NZTopo50-BF40 676570 for approximately 40km to the mouth at Waiotahe Beach NZTopo50-BE40 694868. Alteration from Waiotahi River, former official geographic name by New Zealand Gazette, 23 January 1953, No. 3, page 88.
Waiotahe Rock Rock 37°57.80'S Latitude 177°11.60'E Longitude. An undersea rock located offshore approximately 3km north north-west from the mouth of Waiotahe River. Alteration from Waiotahi Rock, former recorded undersea name. Depicted on Chart NZ 542.
