A river flowing generally northeast from the confluence of Mangorewa River and Ohaupara Stream near State Highway 36 on Mamaku Plateau, approximately 10km northwest of Lake Rotorua/Te Rotorua nui ā Kahumatamomoe, to its confluence with Kaituna River. Paraiti River replaces Mangorewa River for the lower section of the river. NZTopo50-BE37 787938 (source) to NZTopo50-BD37 984077 (mouth).

Notification of Application of Whenua Rāhui and Protection Principles—Whenua Rāhui Area
Pursuant to section 52(1)(a) of the Tapuika Claims Settlement Act 2014 ("Settlement Act 2014"), the Minister of Conservation hereby notifies that the area described in the Schedule hereto has been declared to be subject to an overlay classification known as Whenua Rāhui Area as determined by section 47 of the Settlement Act 2014.
The provisions of the Settlement Act 2014 which relate to the Whenua Rāhui Area are sections 47–55.
Pursuant to section 49 of the Settlement Act 2014, the Minister hereby notifies that the following Protection Principles are directed at the Minister avoiding harm to, or the diminishing of, Tapuika values in relation to Ōpoutihi:
(a) protection of noho kainga / pa sites, indigenous flora and fauna and the wider environment in relation to Ōpoutihi;
(b) recognition of the mana, kaitiakitanga and tikanga of Tapuika in relation to Ōpoutihi;
(c) respect for Tapuika tikanga with regards to Ōpoutihi;
(d) encouragement of respect for the association of Tapuika with Ōpoutihi;
(e) accurate portrayal of the association of Tapuika with Ōpoutihi; and
(f) recognition of the relationship of Tapuika with wāhi tapu and wāhi whakahirahira.
