  1. Interpretation—In this notice:

(a) Act means the Maori Commercial Aquaculture Claims Settlement Act 2004;

(b) Auckland and Canterbury negotiation period means the period up to and including 30 September 2014 applying to the Auckland and Canterbury regions, being the period within 2 years of receipt of the first resource consent application in those regions, referred to in section 11(2)(b)(ii) of the Act, within which the Crown must use its best endeavours to negotiate and enter into regional agreements that provide for the Crown to meet its obligations in respect of new space for those two regions;

(c) Northland, east coast of the Waikato, Tasman and Marlborough regions negotiation period means the period up to and including 30 June 2014 applying to the following regions:

(i) Northland;

(ii) the east coast of the Waikato;

(iii) Tasman; and

(iv) Marlborough,

being the period referred to in section 11(2)(a) of the Act within which the Crown must use its best endeavours to negotiate and enter into regional agreements that provide for the Crown to meet its obligations in respect of new space for those four regions (having been extended once by Gazette Notice No. MPI 237 on 18 September 2013 under section 11(3) of the Act).

(d) Regions has the same meaning as in section 4 of the Act.

  1. Extension to negotiation period—Under section 11(3) of the Act, the negotiation periods referred to in clause 2 of this notice are extended as follows:

(a) The Northland, east coast of the Waikato, Tasman and Marlborough regions negotiation period is extended to and inclusive of 30 June 2015; and

(b) The Auckland and Canterbury regions negotiation period is extended to and inclusive of 30 November 2015.
