Puketuroto / Hoopers Canyon Canyon
46°06.12’S Latitude, 171°00.00’E Longitude. A short canyon that leads from the Otago shelf into the centre channel of Bounty Trough, southeast of Otago Peninsula. Ranges in depth from 200m to 1300m. Depicted on Otago Chart©, Brodie, 1970; Otago Chart©, Carter, 1986. Alteration from Hoopers Canyon.
Puketuroto / Hoopers Channel Seachannel
46°20.00’S Latitude, 171°35.00’E Longitude. A seachannel that forms at the confluence of several canyons at the foot of the steep upper continental slope, 70km southeast of Otago Peninsula. Extends eastward for 150km. Depicted on Otago Chart©, Carter, 1986. Alteration from Hoopers Channel.
Taitimu / Caswell Ridge Ridge
44°48.20’S Latitude, 166°21.15’E Longitude. A large north-south trending ridge that is the westward border of Fiordland Basin. Consists of a flat-topped, oblong ridge 150km long and 25km wide, sub-parallel to the continental margin of Fiordland. The depth of the terrace and crest of the ridge is approximately 3500m. Waiatoto Channel Seachannel
43°46.59’S Latitude, 166°29.19’E Longitude. A seachannel on the outer reaches of the complex beyond Milford Basin, west of Milford Sound, which continues north-westward after merging with Moeraki Channel complex at approximately 43°30’S, 166°30’E in 4100m of water. Notice of the Final Determination of the Minister for Land Information on an Official Geographic Name
Pursuant to section 16 of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008 ("Act"), notice was given in the New Zealand Gazette, 14 November 2013, No. 150, page 4160, of a proposal by the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa ("Board") to alter alternative official geographic names to a dual name.
The submission received for the dual name proposal was dealt with by the Board according to section 18 of the Act.
After considering a report from the Board, I hereby declare that my final determination, made pursuant to sections 20(2) and 20(3) of the Act and as specified in the first column of the Schedule below ("Schedule"), is to alter the existing official alternative geographic names to an official dual geographic name.
The geographic feature type that this dual name relates to is set out in the second column of the Schedule below.
The description for this dual name is set out in the third column of the Schedule.
The date on which I made my decision was 21 May 2014.
My final determination on this dual name shall take effect on 5 June 2014.
