NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE, No. 148 — 11 DECEMBER 2014

Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice:

Notice

  1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Ōrini ki Ngāti Awa, Whakatāne, Establishment.

  2. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

  3. I hereby establish in Pāroa, Whakatāne, a Year 1–8 full primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Ōrini ki Ngāti Awa and designate the school as a Kura Kaupapa Māori.

  4. The school will operate in accordance with Te Aho Matua.

  5. The special characteristics of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Ōrini ki Ngāti Awa are:

    The whānau of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Ōrini ki Ngāti Awa commit totally to the guiding principles outlined in Te Aho Matua that:

    • the paramount purpose of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Ōrini ki Ngāti Awa is to meet the needs of tamariki and their learning;
    • all tamariki enjoy an education that respects their Tino Rangatiratanga, dignity, rights and individuality;
    • the whānau undertake to educate their tamariki through Te Reo Māori total immersion as a medium of instruction;
    • tamariki develop sensitivity and respect for others; and
    • this education challenges them to reach their full potential in the pursuit of excellence.

Constitution of the Establishment Board of Trustees

  1. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Ōrini ki Ngāti Awa shall comprise:

    a. five people appointed by the Minister of Education;

    b. the principal or principal designate; and

    c. not more than four people co-opted by the Board.

  2. Following the Board’s first elections held on a day fixed by the Minister, in accordance with section 101(7) of the Education Act 1989, the constitution of the Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Ōrini ki Ngāti Awa shall be as specified in section 94 of the Education Act 1989.

Amendments to the Christchurch City Council Speed Limits Bylaw 2010

Pursuant to section 27(1)(e) of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Act 2011, the Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery gives the following notice:

The Christchurch City Council Speed Limits Bylaw 2010 is amended from 11 December 2014 by:

  • Inserting in clause 3 the following definition in its appropriate alphabetical order:

    "INNER ZONE" means those roads or parts of roads bounded by but not including Kilmore Street, Madras Street, Latimer Square East (including those portions of Hereford Street and Gloucester Street east of Madras Street and adjoining Latimer Square), St Asaph Street, Hagley Avenue and Hagley Park, together with Colombo Street (Moorhouse Avenue to St Asaph Street) and Victoria Street."
