Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996
Determination of New Organism Stayed
The Environmental Protection Authority’s determination
under section 26 of the Hazardous Substances and
New Organisms Act 1996, dated the 19th day of April 2013
and published in the New Zealand Gazette, 9 May 2013,
No. 54, page 1550, that organisms arising from the use of
Zinc-Finger Nuclease type 1 (ZFN-1) or Transcription
Activator-Like Effector proteins are not genetically
modified organisms, and therefore are not new organisms,
has been stayed by order of the High Court pending the
outcome of an appeal against that determination or further
order of the Court.
