Declaration by Electoral Commission That Claudette Hauiti is Elected a Member of Parliament

WHEREAS—

A. The Electoral Commission has received a warrant from His Excellency the Governor-General, to supply a member of Parliament to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Aaron Wayne Gilmore, pursuant to section 55(1)(f) of the Electoral Act 1993;

B. Under section 137(2) of the Electoral Act 1993, the Electoral Commission has determined that, of the unelected candidates on the party list of the New Zealand National Party, Bernard Paul Quinn stood highest in the order of preference on that list;

C. Under section 137(3) of that Act, the Electoral Commission has asked the Secretary of the New Zealand National Party whether Bernard Paul Quinn remains a member of that party and the Commission has been informed that he remains a member of that party;

D. Under section 137(4) of that Act, the Electoral Commission has asked Bernard Paul Quinn whether he is willing to be a member of Parliament and he has indicated that he is not willing to be a member of Parliament;

E. Under section 137(5) of the Electoral Act 1993, the Electoral Commission has determined that of the unelected candidates on the party list of the New Zealand National Party, Claudette Hauiti stood next highest in the order of preference on that list;

F. Under section 137(3) of that Act, the Electoral Commission has asked the Secretary of the New Zealand National Party whether Claudette Hauiti remains a member of that party and the Commission has been informed that she remains a member of that party;

G. Under section 137(4) of that Act, the Electoral Commission has asked Claudette Hauiti whether she is willing to be a member of Parliament and she has indicated that she is willing to be a member of Parliament.

THEREFORE, pursuant to section 137(5) of that Act, the Electoral Commission declares that

Claudette Hauiti

is elected as a member of Parliament by publication of this declaration as a Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette.
