Declaration by Electoral Commission That Paul Ayers Robert Foster-Bell is Elected a Member of Parliament

WHEREASβ€”

A. The Electoral Commission has received a warrant from His Excellency the Governor-General, to supply a member of Parliament to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Jacqueline Diane Blue, pursuant to section 55(1)(f) of the Electoral Act 1993;

B. Under section 137(2) of the Electoral Act 1993, the Electoral Commission has determined that, of the unelected candidates on the party list of the New Zealand National Party, Bernard Paul Quinn stood highest in the order of preference on that list;

C. Under section 137(3) of that Act, the Electoral Commission has asked the Secretary of the New Zealand National Party whether Bernard Paul Quinn remains a member of that party and the Commission has been informed that he remains a member of that party;

D. Under section 137(4) of that Act, the Electoral Commission has asked Bernard Paul Quinn whether he is willing to be a member of Parliament and he has indicated that he is not willing to be a member of Parliament;

E. Under section 137(5) of the Electoral Act 1993, the Electoral Commission has determined that of the unelected candidates on the party list of the New Zealand National Party, Paul Ayers Robert Foster-Bell stood next highest in the order of preference on that list;

F. Under section 137(3) of that Act, the Electoral Commission has asked the Secretary of the New Zealand National Party whether Paul Ayers Robert Foster-Bell remains a member of that party and the Commission has been informed that he remains a member of that party;

G. Under section 137(4) of that Act, the Electoral Commission has asked Paul Ayers Robert Foster-Bell whether he is willing to be a member of Parliament and he has indicated that he is willing to be a member of Parliament.

THEREFORE, pursuant to section 137(5) of that Act, the Electoral Commission declares that

Paul Ayers Robert Foster-Bell

is elected as a member of Parliament by publication of this declaration as a Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette.
