Submissions on the proposed new or altered geographic names may be provided in writing to the Secretary of the New Zealand Geographic Board, c/o Land Information New Zealand, PO Box 5501, Wellington 6145, or Email: nzgbsubmissions@linz.govt.nz, or Website: www.linz.govt.nz/placenames/consultation/index.aspx

In accordance with section 17 of the Act, submissions must state, with reasons, whether the proposal is supported or objected to and if an objection is made, then submissions may set out an alternative proposal, or support the existing name, if any.

Hohi Historic Site The traditional Māori name for the historic locality of the first mission station, located within the Marsden Cross Historic Reserve, at Rangihoua Bay, Bay of Islands. NZTopo50 AV29-Russell, NZTM 1699850E, 6107700N. Assigning a new name for an unnamed feature.
South Auckland Land District
Stokes Beach Beach A beach within Tauranga Harbour, located on the northern shores of the suburb of Otumoetai, extending east from Tilby Point for approximately 2.5km to the reclaimed part of Kulim Park where the Elements Watersports building is located. From NZTopo50 BD36-Lower Kaimai, GR 756 274 to NZTopo50 BD37-Tauranga, GR 779 267. Assigning a new name for an unnamed feature.
Otago Land District
Norman Creek Creek A small creek flowing generally north-easterly for approximately 2.5km into Lake Wanaka, opposite Ruby Island. NZTopo50 CB12-Cardrona, GR 882 438 to GR 900 449. Assigning a new name for an unnamed feature.
Southland Land District
Codfish Island / Whenua Hou Island An island located approximately 3km north-west of Stewart Island / Rakiura. NZTopo50 CH08-Codfish Island (Whenuahou), NZTM 1190420E, 4806155N. Depicted on maps and charts as Codfish Island (Whenuahou), Codfish (Whenuahau) Island, Codfish Island, Whenua hōu, Codfish Island / Whenuahou, and Codfish Island / Whenua Hou. Alteration from official alternative geographic names and replacing New Zealand Gazette, 29 July 1948, No. 42, page 939.

Notice of Approved Official Geographic Names

Pursuant to sections 10(1)(b), 24 and 21(2) of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008 ("Act"), the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa ("Board") hereby gives notice of 133 approved official geographic names.

These are now official geographic names and are specified in the first column of the Schedule below.

The geographic feature type that they relate to is set out in the second column of the Schedule.

The topomap and grid reference for each name is set out in the third column of the Schedule.

The Board’s final determinations on these approved official geographic names take effect on 14 November 2013.
