For the 2014 year, the South Auckland Middle School will enrol students in Years 7–10. None of the class levels at the school will be single sex.

South Auckland Middle School will operate with the following aims, purposes and/or objectives:
- To provide a learning environment that is thorough, innovative and able to be applied for each learner, through his or her individualised education.
- A strong emphasis on thinking skills and on learners understanding how they think and learn (meta-cognition).
- Building of personal character through applied Christian values.
- This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

The establishment of this school is to be phased in over two years. For the year 2014, the school will enrol students in Years 9–13. As from 2015, the school will enrol students in Years 9–14. None of the class levels at Te Kura Hourua ki Whangaruru will be single sex.

- To provide a secondary schooling option in an authentic cultural, land and water environment that engages, excites and expects great things of every learner.

Te Kura Hourua O Whangarei Terenga Paraoa will operate with the following aims, purposes and objectives:
- Kaupapa Māori philosophy that validates Māori culture and a Māori world view;
- innovative, ākonga-centred education that provides progressive pedagogy, a constructivist approach and personalised learning;
- collaborative partnerships with whānau, local schools and tertiary institutions; and
- evidence-based development – through evidence, either Kaupapa Māori or mainstream research and/or data, develop the kura to be a responsive, 21st century learning organisation for ākonga, that has at its heart a Māori whakaaro.
- This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
