Any person may make a written submission to the director-general concerning this application.

Animal Welfare Act 1999

Issue of Animal Welfare (Meat Chickens) Code of Welfare 2012 (Notice No. MPI 05)

I hereby give notice that, under section 75 of the Animal Welfare Act 1999, the Animal Welfare (Meat Chickens) Code of Welfare 2012 will be issued on 26 July 2012, being the date it is notified in the New Zealand Gazette, and comes into effect on 27 July 2012, the day after it is published.

I also give notice, under section 76 of the Animal Welfare Act 1999, that on 26 July 2012, the Animal Welfare (Broiler Chickens: Fully Housed) Code of Welfare 2003 is revoked*.

The code of welfare is available for inspection free of charge and for purchase at the following address:

Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing)
Regulations 1999

Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice
(No. 2) 2012 (Notice No. MPI 46)

Pursuant to Regulation 9 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Director Māori Partnership Implementation at the Ministry for Primary Industries (acting pursuant to a delegated authority in accordance with section 41 of the State Sector Act 1988) gives the following notice.

Notice

  1. Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 2) 2012.

(2) This notice shall come into effect on 3 August 2012.

  1. Interpretation—In this notice, "area/rohe moana" means each of those areas described in clause 4 of this notice as the case may require.

(2) Terms used in this notice have the same meaning as in the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999.

  1. Nomination of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki—Te Rūnanga o Makāwhio, representing the whānau and hapū of Ngāi Tahu Whānui holding manawhenua manamoana over each of the area/rohe moana (as represented by Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu), has nominated Mata Holliday and Richard Rangi Wallace as Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for managing customary food-gathering within the respective area/rohe moana described in clause 4 below for further terms.

  2. Appointment of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki—(1) On 17 July 2012, the Minister for Primary Industries appointed, under Regulation 9(5) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999:

(a) Mata Holliday as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for managing customary food-gathering in the area/rohe moana from Piopiotahi to Abut Head, extending seaward to the limit of the South Island fisheries waters, being the 200-mile limit, and inland to boundaries defined for Te Rūnanga o Makāwhio in Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu (Declaration Membership) Order 2001; and

(b) Richard Rangi Wallace as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for managing customary food-gathering in the area/rohe moana from Abut Head River to the Hokitika River, extending seaward to the limit of the South Island fisheries waters, being the 200-mile limit, and inland to boundaries defined for Te Rūnanga o Makāwhio and Te Rūnaka o Kāti Waewae in Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu (Declaration Membership) Order 2001.

(2) The appointments described in clause 4(1) will expire on 2 August 2017.

  1. Power to authorise the taking of fisheries resources for customary food gathering—Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki may authorise any individual to take fisheries resources managed under the Fisheries Act 1996 for customary food-gathering purposes from within the whole or any part of the area/rohe moana. No customary food-gathering of fisheries resources may take place in the area/rohe moana without an authorisation from a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki.
