Appointments to the Social Workers Registration Board

Pursuant to section 28 of the Crown Entities Act 2004, the Minister for Social Development has appointed

Jim Heays, of Auckland

as a member of the Social Workers Registration Board for a term of three years commencing on 1 December 2012 and expiring 30 November 2015; and

Mary Miles, of Christchurch

as a member of the Social Workers Registration Board for a term of 18 months commencing on 1 December 2012 and expiring on 31 May 2014.

Social Security Act 1964

Direction in Relation to Section 124(1)(d) and (1A) 2012

To: The Chief Executive of the Ministry of Social Development.

Pursuant to section 5 of the Social Security Act 1964, the Minister for Social Development gives the following direction.

Direction

  1. Title—This direction is the Direction in Relation to Section 124(1)(d) and (1A) 2012.

  2. Interpretation—In this direction:
    Act means the Social Security Act 1964 and terms defined in section 3(1) of the Act have the same meanings in this direction

  3. Exercise of powers under section 124(1)(d) and (1A)—In the exercise of your powers under section 124(1)(d) and (1A) of the Act to grant special assistance under the Transition to Work Grant Programme* (as established and approved on 23 January 2007 under section 124(1)(d) of the Act), you must not grant assistance in connection with any employment or job seeking or job placement in a location other than New Zealand.

This note is not part of the direction but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This direction to the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Social Development prevents grants under the Transition to Work Grant Programme being made in respect of employment or job seeking or job placement outside New Zealand.

Approval for Rural Assistance Under Special Needs Grants Programme

Pursuant to clauses 18.2 and 18.6 of the Special Needs Grants Programme (as established and approved on 18 December 1998* under section 124(1)(d) of the Social Security Act 1964) (the programme), I give my approval for Part 6 of the programme to apply as follows:

Rural Assistance

  1. Farmers whose primary industries—
    (a) are situated in the North Island of New Zealand; and
    (b) are (or are primarily) kiwifruit growing; and
    (c) have vines that are infected by the Pseudomonas syringae pv.actinidinae virus,

    are eligible to be considered for grants of assistance under Part 6 of the programme if they apply for that assistance within a period of 12 months commencing on the day on which the Minister of Primary Industries declares the Pseudomonas syringae pv.actinidinae virus to be a biosecurity event under the Primary Sector Recovery Policy as agreed by the Government in June 2012.

  2. In respect of any such farmer, Part 6 of the programme applies for a period of one year commencing on the date of the farmer’s application for assistance.

  2. Commencement—This instrument comes into effect on the 3 December 2012.
