Electricity Industry Act 2010

Notice of the Electricity Industry Participation (Supply Standards) Code Amendment 2012

1. Pursuant to section 38(3)(b) of the Electricity Industry Act 2010 ("Act"), the Electricity Authority ("Authority") gives notice of the making of the Electricity Industry Participation (Supply Standards) Code Amendment 2012.

2. The amendment comes into force on 3 January 2013.

3. The amendment amends clause 7.3 of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 ("Code") to:

   (a) change the winter energy margins for the energy security of supply standards to 14–16% for New Zealand (except the South Island) and to 25.5–30% for the South Island; and

   (b) change the winter capacity margin for the capacity security of supply standard to 630–780MW for the North Island; and

   (c) provide that the Authority may publish a security standards assumptions document; and

   (d) provide that if the Authority publishes a security standards assumptions document, the system operator must use the assumptions in that document when it prepares a security of supply assessment, but allows the system operator to use different assumptions if the system operator considers that there are good reasons to do so.
