Land Transport Rules
In accordance with section 161(2) of the Land Transport Act 1998, the NZ Transport Agency, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make a Rule that proposes amendments to the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004 (Rule 61001) ("the Rule"), and advises that the draft Land Transport (Road User) Amendment Rule [2011] (Rule 61001/6) ("the amendment Rule") is available for public comment.
The amendment Rule proposes to change the give-way rules on New Zealand roads and to make other more minor changes that will affect road users.
Changing the current give-way rules is a road safety priority in the Government’s road safety strategy Safer Journeys – New Zealand’s Road Safety Strategy 2010-2020.
Other proposals in the amendment Rule are intended to improve school bus safety and to strengthen or clarify other existing requirements, and to remove requirements that are no longer needed.
