A. REGISTRATION AND CHANGE TO SCOPE OF PRACTICE FEES

Application to register as a medical laboratory scientist (overseas graduate) 480.00
Application to register as a medical laboratory technician (New Zealand graduate) 120.00
Application to register as a medical laboratory technician (overseas graduate) 350.00
Application to be registered with a change to an existing scope of practice 230.00

B. ANNUAL PRACTISING CERTIFICATE FEES

Description $\
Application for an annual practising certificate in the scope of practice of medical laboratory scientist 175.00
Application for an annual practising certificate in the scope of practice of medical laboratory technician 140.00

The Board will waive the fee for an annual practising certificate for new applicants who apply after 1 December in any year, for the remainder of the year to 31 March of the following year.

C. SUPPLY OF DOCUMENTS FEES

Issue of a certificate of registration 45.00
Issue of a certificate of registered information 45.00
Supplying a medical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technician with any document for the purposes of seeking registration overseas 100.00
Issue of a replacement annual practising certificate declared lost 50.00

D. ACCREDITATION FEE

Description $\
Fee for carrying out an accreditation review of an undergraduate degree programme 12,000.00
Fee for carrying out an accreditation of laboratory-based medical laboratory technician training courses provided by a single education provider 1,500.00

Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003

Notice Replacing Prescribed Scopes of Practice and Related Qualifications

Pursuant to sections 11 and 12 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (“the Act”), the following notice is given.

This notice replaces the previous notice of the Medical Radiation Technologists Board (“the board”) dated the 25th day of June 2008 and published in the New Zealand Gazette, 3 July 2008, No. 110, page 2881.

Scopes of Practice

Pursuant to section 11(1) of the Act, the board specifies eight scopes of practice within the profession of medical radiation technology as follows:

  1. Scope of Practice – Diagnostic Imaging – General
    Practises Diagnostic Imaging – General:
    Involves the use of ionising radiation to gain a diagnostic image for evaluation.

  2. Scope of Practice – Radiation Therapist
    Practises Radiation Therapy:
    Involves the use of treatment planning systems, ionising radiation and radionuclides for radiation treatment planning and delivery.

  3. Scope of Practice – Nuclear Medicine Technologist
    Practises Diagnostic Imaging – Nuclear Medicine:
    Involves the use of radionuclides to gain a diagnostic image for evaluation.

  4. Scope of Practice – Sonographer
    Practises Diagnostic Imaging – Ultrasound:
    Involves the use of ultrasound waves to gain a diagnostic image for evaluation.

  5. Scope of Practice – Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist
    Practises Diagnostic Imaging – Magnetic Resonance Imaging:
    Involves the use of magnetic resonance to gain a diagnostic image for evaluation.
