Notice

  1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae, Auckland Establishment.

  2. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

  3. I hereby establish in Auckland, a Year 1–13 composite designated character school called Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae.

  4. The following aims, purposes and objectives, together with the use of te reo Māori as the principal language of instruction, shall constitute the designated character of Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae:

    • To produce excellent competency in te reo and Mātauranga Māori, derived primarily from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.

    • To nurture and grow the seed from Rangiatea through te reo Māori me ona tikanga, whanaungatanga, wairua and whakapapa.

    • To raise the achievement of the tamariki through the customs and cultural literacy of Te Ao Māori and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.

    • To honour the kura’s relationship with mana whenua and the rich and important history of the Mangere area.

    • To develop within the tamariki, consciousness of their connection to Tainui and the kīngitanga and their individual and collective responsibility to ensuring that connection remains intact.

    • To reflect within the kura curriculum the shared values of the whānau, hapū, iwi and kura community.

    • To produce young people who are able to fulfil their own potentials and able to make choices about their future.

    • To maintain and encourage the growth of a kura culture that generates a shared commitment from staff, students and parents to high standards of achievement and personal behaviour.

    • To provide an educational environment (wharekura) that promotes the educational vision, goals, objectives, management and self-determination of the tangata whenua of Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae.

Notice of Direction for Appointment of a Limited Statutory Manager for the Board of Trustees of Hamilton’s Fraser High School (135)

Pursuant to section 78M of the Education Act 1989, I direct the Secretary for Education to appoint a limited statutory manager for Hamilton’s Fraser High School Board of Trustees because of risks to the operation of the school and the educational performance of its students.

The following functions, powers and duties of the board are to be vested in a limited statutory manager:

  • All functions, powers and duties of the board as an employer (whether statutory or otherwise).

The limited statutory manager will take office immediately following the term of the current commissioner.

Pursuant to section 78M of the Education Act 1989, I direct the Secretary for Education to appoint a limited statutory manager for the Burwood School Board of Trustees because of the risks to the operation of the school and the educational performance of its students.

The following functions, powers and duties of the board are to be vested in a limited statutory manager:

  • All functions, powers and duties of the board as an employer (whether statutory or otherwise); and

  • All functions, powers and duties of the board to manage curriculum, and teaching and assessment practices (whether statutory or otherwise).

This notice takes effect the day after the date of publication.
