Social Security Act 1964

Approval for Rural Assistance Under Special Needs Grants Programme

Under clauses 18.2 and 18.6 of the Special Needs Grants Programme (“the programme”), as established and approved on 18 December 1998* under section 124(1)(d) of the Social Security Act 1964, I give my approval for Part 6 of the programme to apply as follows:

Rural Assistance – Farmers

1. Farmers in the affected areas whose land-based industries are directly affected by drought are eligible to be considered for financial assistance under Part 6 of the programme.

2. In relation to such farmers, Part 6 of the programme applies for the period beginning on 7 June 2010 and ending with the close of 31 December 2010, unless further extended by the Minister.

3. In this approval, affected areas means the territories of the following local authorities:

   • Christchurch City Council
   • Hurunui District Council
   • Selwyn District Council
   • Waimakariri District Council

Notice of Approval Given Pursuant to Section 160(3) of the Crown Entities Act 2004

Pursuant to section 160(3) of the Crown Entities Act 2004, I, Jane Katharine Meares, Treasury Solicitor, hereby give notice that:

(1) on 24 October 2008, The Honourable Dr Michael Cullen, Minister of Finance, and The Right Honourable, Helen Clark, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, gave joint approval under section 160(1)(b) of the Crown Entities Act 2004, in relation to section 162 of that Act, for the New Zealand Antarctic Institute to enter into a finance lease agreement (the “Alliance Agreement”) with Meridian Energy Limited, to fund the construction, development and operation of a wind farm project on Ross Island, Antarctica; and

(2) on 7 June 2010, The Honourable Simon William English, Minister of Finance, and The Honourable Murray Stuart McCully, Minister of Foreign Affairs, gave joint approval under section 160(1)(b) of the Crown Entities Act 2004, in relation to section 162 of that Act, for the New Zealand Antarctic Institute to enter into an agreement with Meridian Energy Limited to amend the terms of the existing borrowing under the Alliance Agreement.
