Declaration by Chief Electoral Officer That Gareth Thomas Llewelyn Hughes is Elected a Member of Parliament
WHEREASβ
A. I have received a warrant from His Excellency the Governor-General, to supply a member of Parliament to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Jeanette Mary Fitzsimons, pursuant to section 55(1)(f) of the Electoral Act 1993;
B. Under section 137(2) of the Electoral Act 1993, I have determined that, of the unelected candidates on the party list of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand, Gareth Thomas Llewelyn Hughes stood highest in the order of preference on that list;
C. Under section 137(3) of that Act, I have asked the Secretary of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand whether Gareth Thomas Llewelyn Hughes remains a member of that party and I have been informed that he remains a member of that party;
D. Under section 137(4) of that Act, I have asked Gareth Thomas Llewelyn Hughes whether he is willing to be a member of Parliament and he has indicated his willingness to be a member of Parliament.
THEREFORE, pursuant to section 137(4) of that Act, I, Robert Andrew Peden, Chief Electoral Officer, declare that
Gareth Thomas Llewelyn Hughes
is elected as a member of Parliament by publication of this declaration as a Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette.
