Intention to Apply for Approval of Code of Practice

Pursuant to section 20(1)(a) of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, the Secretary of Labour has asked the Minister to approve a code of practice.

The proposed code sets out a statement of preferred work practices or arrangements for the engagement of young people working in the entertainment sector, particularly in relation to night work (ie between 10.00pm and 6.00am).

The proposed code comprises clauses 25 to 29 of The Code of Practice for the Engagement of Cast in the New Zealand Screen Production Industry, commonly referred to as the "Pink Book".

The proposed code is available on the Department of Labour’s website

www.dol.govt.nz

The parties to the Pink Book are:

  • Screen Production and Development Association Inc (SPADA);
  • New Zealand Actors Agents Guild;
  • Actors’ Agents Association of New Zealand; and
  • New Zealand Actors Equity.

The provisions of the proposed code have been recently reviewed by the parties to the Pink Book, and the Department of Labour understands they are broadly accepted and applied within the entertainment sector.

It is intended that the proposed code would apply to the engagement of young people within the entertainment sector as a whole.

Interested parties are invited to comment on the proposed code.

Written submissions in relation to the approval of this code can be made to:

Approved Code of Practice for Youth in the Entertainment Sector Submissions, Technical Services, Department of Labour, PO Box 3705, Wellington 6140.

Email: standards@dol.govt.nz

Submissions close on Friday, 29 May 2009.

Dated at Wellington this 30th day of April 2009.

CHRISTOPHER BLAKE, Secretary of Labour, Department of Labour.
