  1. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

  2. I hereby establish in Tauranga, a Year 1–13 composite school called Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Kura Kokiri and designate the school as a Kura Kaupapa Māori.

  3. The school will operate in accordance with Te Aho Matua.

  4. The special characteristics of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Kura Kokiri are that the whānau commit totally to the guiding principles outlined in Te Aho Matua as follows:

  • The paramount purpose of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Kura Kokiri is to meet the needs of tamariki and their learning;
  • all tamariki enjoy an education that respects their Tino Rangatiratanga, dignity, rights and individuality;
  • the whānau undertake to educate their tamariki through Te Reo Māori total immersion as a medium of instruction;
  • tamariki develop sensitivity and respect for others; and
  • this education challenges them to reach their full potential in the pursuit of excellence.

Constitution of the Establishment Board of Trustees

  1. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Kura Kokiri shall comprise:

    • (a) five people appointed by the Minister of Education;
    • (b) the principal or principal designate; and
    • (c) not more than four people co-opted by the board.
  2. Following the board’s first elections held on a day fixed by the Minister, in accordance with section 101(7) of the Education Act 1989, the constitution of the Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Kura Kokiri shall be as specified in section 94 of the Education Act 1989.

Notice of Dissolution of the Board of Trustees of Manukorihi Intermediate School (2190) and Appointment of a Commissioner

Pursuant to section 78N(3) of the Education Act 1989, I hereby dissolve the board of trustees of Manukorihi Intermediate School and appoint Geoff Mooar as commissioner to replace that board.

All functions, powers and duties of the board of Manukorihi Intermediate School are vested in the commissioner.

This notice takes effect the day after the date of publication.

Education (Early Childhood Centres) Regulations 1998

Recognition of First Aid Qualifications in Early Childhood Centres

Pursuant to Regulations 25(3) and 38 of the Education (Early Childhood Centres) Regulations 1998, the Secretary for Education hereby recognises the following as first aid qualifications:

(a) The qualifications held by a registered medical practitioner or nurse who holds a current practising certificate; and

(b) The qualifications held by a qualified ambulance officer or paramedic.

This notice does not revoke any previous notices issued pursuant to the above-mentioned regulations, and shall come into force on the day after the date of its notification in the New Zealand Gazette.

Notice of Direction to Appoint a Limited Statutory Manager for the Board of Trustees of Sherwood School (2673)

Pursuant to section 78M of the Education Act 1989, I direct the Secretary for Education to appoint a limited statutory manager for the Sherwood School Board of Trustees because of the risks to the operation of the school.

The following functions, powers and duties of the board are vested in a limited statutory manager:

  • All functions, powers and duties of the board as an employer (whether statutory or otherwise).

A limited statutory manager must also advise the board on the following:

  • The development of effective working relationships between the board of trustees, principal and community.

This notice takes effect the day after the date of publication.

Private Schools Conditional Integration Act 1975

Supplementary Integration Agreement

Pursuant to section 10 of the Private Schools Conditional Integration Act 1975, notice is given that a supplementary integration agreement has been signed between the Minister of Education on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, acting through the Group Manager, Regional Education, Ministry of Education, pursuant to delegated authority, and the proprietor of the following school:

Waikato Waldorf School, Hamilton.

The said supplementary integration agreement was executed on 22 April 2009.

A copy of the supplementary integration agreement is available for inspection without charge by any member of the public at the regional office of the Ministry of Education, 136–150 Victoria Street, Hamilton.
