Notice of Product Ruling

1. This is a notice of a product ruling made under section 91F of the Tax Administration Act 1994.

2. Product ruling No. 09/01 was issued on 14 January 2009. It applies to scholarships provided by the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute to students enrolled in a Diploma in Traditional Whakairo (Māori Carving) course, for the purposes of covering students’ living costs. It will appear in Inland Revenue’s Tax Information Bulletin, Vol. 21, No. 2, of April 2009.

2. Public ruling BR Pub 09/01 entitled “Payments made by parents or guardians of students to state schools – GST treatment” was issued on 23 March 2009. BR Pub 09/01 applies for the period 21 June 2006 to 20 June 2013. It will appear in Inland Revenue’s Tax Information Bulletin, Vol. 21, No. 3, May 2009.

Acting District Court Judges Appointed

Pursuant to section 10A of the District Courts Act 1947, His Excellency the Governor-General of New Zealand has been pleased to appoint

Paul Franklin Barber, retired District Court Judge
to be an Acting District Court Judge, to exercise civil and criminal jurisdiction in New Zealand, at such place or places and for such period or periods only as the Chief District Court Judge may fix, pursuant to the said section 10A of the District Courts Act 1947, for a term of two years on and from 4 March 2009; and

David James Carruthers, retired District Court Judge
to be an Acting District Court Judge, to exercise civil and criminal jurisdiction in New Zealand, at such place or places and for such period or periods only as the Chief District Court Judge may fix, pursuant to the said section 10A of the District Courts Act 1947, for a term of two years on and from 1 April 2009.
