Land Transport Act 1998

Land Transport Rules

In accordance with section 161(2) of the Land Transport Act 1998, the NZ Transport Agency, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make two Land Transport Rules, and advises that draft Land Transport Rule: Dangerous Goods Amendment [2009] and draft Land Transport Rule: Tyres and Wheels Amendment [(No 2) 2009] are available for public comment.

Land Transport Rule: Dangerous Goods Amendment [2009] (Rule 45001/2)

This proposed Rule will amend Land Transport Rule: Dangerous Goods 2005 (Rule 45001/1) to maintain alignment of the Rule with the United Nations Recommendations on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods – Model Regulations and with the New Zealand requirements relating to hazardous substances and new organisms.

The proposed Rule will also clarify and modify provisions in the Dangerous Goods Rule to aid compliance with the Rule.

Land Transport Rule: Tyres and Wheels Amendment [(No 2) 2009] (Rule 32013/5)

This proposed Rule will amend Land Transport Rule: Tyres and Wheels 2001 (Rule 32013) to prohibit the mixing of winter tyres and traditional summer tyres on the same vehicle, and to make other changes that will aid compliance and remove requirements that are no longer considered necessary.

The consultation material is also available for viewing at the NZ Transport Agency’s regional offices.

Groups and individuals who have registered their interest have been advised of the availability of the draft Rules.

Submissions on draft Land Transport Rule: Dangerous Goods Amendment [2009] and draft Land Transport Rule: Tyres and Wheels Amendment [(No 2) 2009] close on 9 April 2009.
