Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978

Application to Film Marine Mammals

Pursuant to section 5(5) of the Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978, the Minister of Conservation notifies that he received an application from

Maxwell Quinn

on 27 November 2009 to film and photograph marine mammals underwater.

The filming and photography is proposed to occur in International Antarctic waters south of 60°S and between 150°E and 150°W, including waters of the Ross Sea and Balleny Islands, for use in the production of a natural history documentary of the joint Australian – New Zealand Antarctic Whale Expedition.

This activity has the potential to disturb marine mammals and therefore will require a permit.

A copy of the application can be obtained from the Department of Conservation, Aquatic & Threats Unit, PO Box 10420, Wellington 6143.

Any person wishing to make a submission on this application can do so by writing to the Manager, Aquatic & Threats Unit, Department of Conservation, PO Box 10420, Wellington 6143, within 28 days after publication of this notice.

Unless a person making a submission states to the contrary in the submission, that person will be deemed to give his/her consent to the release under the Official Information Act 1982 of all the information in the submission.

Revocation of Notice of Direction to Appoint a Limited Statutory Manager for the Board of Trustees of Kohukohu School (1035)

The notice of direction to appoint a limited statutory manager for the board of trustees of Kohukohu School (as published in the New Zealand Gazette, 20 September 2007, No. 102, page 2760) is hereby revoked under section 78M(7) of the Education Act 1989.

This notice takes effect the day after the date of its publication.

Notice of Direction for Appointment of a Limited Statutory Manager for the Board of Trustees of Uruti School (2257)

Pursuant to section 78M of the Education Act 1989, I direct the Secretary for Education to appoint a limited statutory manager for the Uruti School Board of Trustees because of risks to the operation of the school.

The following functions, powers and duties of the board are to be vested in a limited statutory manager:

• All functions, powers and duties of the board to establish processes for board meeting procedures (whether statutory or otherwise);
• All functions, powers and duties of the board to manage all communications (whether statutory or otherwise) including communications with the media, communications within the school and communications between the school and its community; and
• All functions, powers and duties of the board to establish procedures and processes (whether statutory or otherwise) for school-wide self review.

A limited statutory manager must also advise the board on the following:

• The exercise of its governance powers; and
• Areas for improvement identified in the October Education Review Office report are addressed.

This notice takes effect the day after the date of publication.
