Marine Mammals Protection Regulations 1992

Declaration Notice

Pursuant to Regulation 15(3) of the Marine Mammals Protection Regulations 1992, I, Kevin James O’Connor, Acting Director-General of Conservation, hereby give notice that for a period of 3 weeks from the date of the expiry of the Conservation notice issued under the Marine Mammals Protection Regulations 1992, published in the New Zealand Gazette, 4 November 1999, No. 163, page 3904, being 24 November 2009, no new permits for commercial vessel operations to view dolphins along the Kaikoura Coast (defined here as all those waters between the Clarence River Mouth (173°56’E, 42°10’S) and the Waiau River Mouth (173°22’E, 42°47’S) and extending out due east to 25 nautical miles from the shore) shall be granted.

This declaration does not apply for applications to renew or amend existing dolphin viewing permits for the Kaikoura Coast.
