Declaration by Chief Electoral Officer That Su’a William Sio is Elected a Member of Parliament

WHEREAS—

A. I have received a warrant from His Excellency the Governor-General, to supply a member of Parliament to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Dianne Fae Yates pursuant to section 55(1)(f) of the Electoral Act 1993;

B. Under section 137(2) of the Electoral Act 1993, I have determined that of the unelected candidates on the party list of the New Zealand Labour Party, Su’a William Sio stood highest in the order of preference on that list;

C. Under section 137(3) of that Act, I have asked the Secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party whether Su’a William Sio remains a member of that party and I have been informed by the Secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party that he remains a member of that party;

D. Under section 137(4) of that Act, I have asked Su’a William Sio whether he is willing to be a member of Parliament and he has indicated his willingness to be a member of Parliament.

THEREFORE, pursuant to section 137(4) of that Act, I, Robert Andrew Peden, Chief Electoral Officer, declare Su’a William Sio to be elected a member of Parliament.
