Pursuant to section 21 of the Maori Affairs Restructuring Act 1989, the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Māori Development hereby gives notice as follows.

Notice

  1. This notice may be cited as Māori Land Development Notice, Rotorua 2008, No. 3.

  2. The notice referred to in the First Schedule hereto is hereby revoked.

  3. The land described in the Second Schedule hereto is hereby released from the provisions of Part II of the Maori Affairs Restructuring Act 1989.

New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946

Notice of Final Decisions to Assign, Alter or Remove Place Names in the Ross Sea Region, Antarctica

Notice is hereby given of the final decisions of the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa to assign or alter the place names stated in the first column of Schedule 1 below, to the places described in the second column of the said Schedule; and to remove the place name stated in the first column of Schedule 2 below, to the place described in the second column of the said Schedule; and that such decisions take effect on the date of the New Zealand Gazette containing this notice.

Schedule 1

Assign or Alter Place Names

Hargreaves Peak

71°37′15″S Latitude, 170°33′05″E Longitude. The highest peak on Adare Peninsula, rising to approximately 2083m. The feature stands sharply above Downshire Cliffs to the east, and its western slopes gently descend toward Nameless Glacier, which flows into Protection Cove. Topographic map: SR 59-60/13 & 14 (Pt) Cape Adare (1:250,000).

Mount Peterson

72°46′10″S Latitude, 169°41′56″E Longitude. The northern summit on Daniell Peninsula rising to approximately 1910m. The feature is flanked by Whitehall Glacier to the west, Tucker Inlet and Tucker Glacier to the north, and Ross Sea at the east. Topographic map: SS 58-60/2 Cape Hallett (1:250,000).

Unwin Ledge

77°35′S Latitude, 162°37′E Longitude. A flat-topped ridge or tableland, located to the west of Hothem Cliffs and south of Mount Hall in Asgard Range, Victoria Land. The upper surface of the feature at 1950m, is ice covered and rises 400m above the heads of the adjacent Newall Glacier and Canada Glacier. Topographic map: ST 57-60/6 & 7 (Pt) Ross Island (1:250,000) and McMurdo Dry Valleys Satellite Image Map: Matterhorn (1:25,000). Replaces Himalaya Ledge notified in previous New Zealand Gazette, 24 June 2004, No. 76, page 1853. Altered to be consistent with Unwin Ledge assigned by the United States Board on Geographic Names in 1998.

Mount Unwin

77°34′S Latitude, 163°02′E Longitude. A mountain located south of Sanders Nunatak, and north of Huey Gully, and north-west of Scholars Peak, and west of Ghent Ridge; these features lying along the southern flow of Commonwealth Glacier. Topographic map: ST 57-60/6 & 7 (Pt) Ross Island (1:250,000) and McMurdo Dry Valleys Satellite Image Map: Denton Glacier (1:25,000). Replaces previous New Zealand Gazette, 24 June 2004, No. 76, page 1853. First proposed as Mount Hercules, then changed to Mount Unwin when
