✨ Electoral District Objections
1708 NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE, No. 65 14 JUNE 2007
Notes:
• Summarised objections have been allocated under the proposed electorate where the area specified in the objection is located. For example, if an objector stated an objection to, say, Pyes Pa being located in the proposed Bay of Plenty Electorate OR objected to Pyes Pa not being in the Rotorua Electorate then in both cases the objection has been assigned to the proposed Bay of Plenty Electorate.
• It is recommended that people interested in a particular electorate should also look at objections relating to neighbouring electorates as these could affect the electorate they are concerned with.
Abbreviations used:
b relates to an objection to a boundary
n relates to an objection to a name
h objector has requested a hearing
Electoral District and Nature of Objection
N01 Northland
N01 001 b Objection Far North District Council
Objects to the boundary of the proposed Northland electorate on the grounds of population growth, geographic size, communication facilities and community of interest.
Anticipated growth on the east coast of Northland may vary considerably from the projected population figures given.
Also, Northland is a predominantly rural electorate that now includes two urban areas. Given the geographic size and the communication facilities of the electorate, this will make it difficult for any MP to effectively represent the proposed electorate.
Suggested solution Retain the existing boundary.
N08 Te Atatu
N08 001 n Objection G R Seymour
Objects to the omission of the macron in the name of the proposed Te Atatu electorate.
Suggested solution That the electorate name be spelt ‘Te Ātatū’.
N09 Waitakere
N09 001 b Objection B L Pillay, MP – Waitakere
Objects to the inclusion of Muriwai in the proposed Waitakere electorate. Muriwai is isolated by topography and transport facilities from the rest of the electorate and is part of the Rodney District, rather than Waitakere City.
Suggested solution Do not include Muriwai in the Waitakere electorate.
