The following purchase units apply to specialist medical maternity services.

Reporting requirements: service delivery information
A maternity provider must give service delivery information in accordance with
the claim forms, OMC system or message standard definition for specialist
medical maternity services approved by the Ministry of Health from time to
time.

Service specification: ultrasound scan
A maternity provider who provides an ultrasound scan must provide the
following services if a payment for services is claimed:
(a) conduct an ultrasound scan according to quality standards recognised
by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians
and Gynaecologists and the Royal Australian and New Zealand
College of Radiologists:
(b) ensure that a radiologist or an obstetrician with a Diploma of
Diagnostic Ultrasound (or equivalent as determined by the Royal
Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and
Gynaecologists) is available to tailor the radiological examination to
the clinical situation byβ
(i) being physically present at the place where the examination is
being performed; or
(ii) when using teleradiology, being available to review the
transmitted diagnostic images before the womanβs departure
from the place where the scan is conducted:
(c) obtain a permanent visual record of the scan:
(d) provide the referring general practitioner, midwife, obstetrician, or
family planning practitioner with a written interpretation of the scan by
