Declaration by Chief Electoral Officer That Lesley Frances Soper is Elected a Member of Parliament
WHEREASβ
A. I have received a warrant from His Excellency the Governor-General, to supply a member of Parliament to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Georgina Beyer pursuant to section 55(1)(f) of the Electoral Act 1993;
B. Under section 137(2) of the Electoral Act 1993, I have determined that of the unelected candidates on the party list of the New Zealand Labour Party, Lesley Frances Soper stood highest in the order of preference on that list;
C. Under section 137(3) of that Act, I have asked the Secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party whether Lesley Frances Soper remains a member of that party and I have been informed by the Secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party that she remains a member of that party;
D. Under section 137(4) of that Act, I have asked Lesley Frances Soper whether she is willing to be a member of Parliament and she has indicated her willingness to be a member of Parliament.
THEREFORE, pursuant to section 137(4) of that Act, I, Robert Andrew Peden, Chief Electoral Officer, declare
Lesley Frances Soper
to be elected a member of Parliament.
