Notice Stating Where Proposed Material to be Incorporated by Reference into Regulations is Available for Inspection and Purchase—Building and Housing, Building Act 2004, Part 2: Sub–Part 7, The Safety of Dams

Pursuant to section 409 (2) (d) of the Building Act 2004 ("the Act"), I give notice that I propose to make a recommendation for Regulations in relation to the safety of dams to be made under sub-part 7 of Part 2 of the Act that incorporates material by reference as follows:

  • The New Zealand Dam Safety Guidelines (2000)
  • NZS 1170.5: 2004 Structural Design Actions – Part 5: Earthquake Actions – New Zealand
  • AS/NZS 1170.0:2002 Structural Design Actions – Part 0: General Principles
  • ISO/IEC: 17020: 1998 General Criteria for the Operation of Bodies Performing Inspection
  • AS/NZS ISO/IEC: 17020: 2000 Requirements for Inspection Body Accreditation in New Zealand

The Department of Building and Housing has published a discussion document "Regulations for the Dam Safety Scheme: Discussion Document".

The document provides further details on the proposals for Regulations in relation to the safety of dams. Input is sought on the merits of these proposals by 31 August 2006.

Availability of Material for Inspection or Purchase

The documents identified above are available to be inspected free of charge at the national office of the Department of Building and Housing, Level Six, 86 Customhouse Quay, Wellington, between the hours of 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Copies of NZS 1170.5: 2004 Structural Design Actions – Part 5: Earthquake Actions – New Zealand and AS/NZS 1170.0:2002 Structural Design Actions – Part 0: General Principles are available for purchase from Standards New Zealand, Level Ten, 155 The Terrace, Wellington, or by post to Standards New Zealand, Private Bag 2439, Wellington.

  2. Copies of ISO/IEC: 17020: 1998 General Criteria for the Operation of Bodies Performing Inspection and AS/NZS ISO/IEC: 17020: 2000 Requirements for Inspection Body Accreditation in New Zealand are available free of charge from International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ), Level One, 626 Great South Road, Greenlane, Auckland 1005, or by post to International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ), Private Bag 28-908, Remuera, Auckland 1136.

  1. The New Zealand Dam Safety Guidelines (2000) are published by the New Zealand Society on Large Dams and are available free of charge to download from:
