Interpretation

additive means any material added to another chemical or mixture of chemicals to change, improve or enhance its properties, characteristics or performance and includes process regulators, preservatives and surface-active agents

intermediate means a material created during the manufacture of a product, that may or may not be isolated or stored before being used or consumed in the subsequent manufacture of a product

preservative means any material used to prevent decomposition due to chemical change or microbial action, or to prevent microbial growth, but does not include a pesticide

process chemical means any material used to assist in the manufacture of a product with the appropriate processing equipment and machinery, for analytical, separation and purification purposes. Process chemicals do not form part of the final product

process regulator means any material used to regulate the speed of a chemical process

raw material means any material used in the manufacture of a product, and includes intermediates

surface active agent means any material used to lower the surface and/or interfacial tension of a liquid.
