Electricity Regulations 1997

Notice That Certain Types of Electrical Appliances and Fittings Require a Declaration of Compliance by the Supplier Before Being Offered for Sale

Pursuant to Regulation 101A (1) (a) of the Electricity Regulations 1997, I, Sanjai Deepak Raj, acting under delegated authority from the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Economic Development, hereby give public notice that from 1 February 2007, the types of electrical appliances and fittings listed in the Schedule require a declaration of compliance by the supplier before being sold or offered for sale in New Zealand.

All previous public notices given pursuant to Regulation 101A (1) (a) of the Electricity Regulations 1997 are revoked and substituted by this notice, effective from 1 February 2007.

All valid declarations of compliance made by suppliers for electrical appliances and fittings before 1 February 2007, remain valid after 1 February 2007.

ELECTRIC WIRES AND CABLES Supply flexible cord As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2:2001 including amendment No. 1 January 2005. Appendix E item E2.42
Cables having 1–5 conductors of stranded or solid cores of copper conductors, insulated and laid up in flat or circular configuration and sheathed to provide mechanical protection to the insulation, intended for use at a rated voltage of between 200 and 250 volts,
single phase, or between 350 and 450 volts, multi-phase, rms a.c., between conductors or to earth, intended for use in buildings or similar structures, or used in association with buildings or similar structures and having a cross-sectional area per conductor of
between 0.5 mm² and 16 mm².

(b) as its primary function, extends supply from a socket-outlet;
(c) is portable;
(d) incorporates one extension socket-outlet at the end of a cord;
(e) has a rating not exceeding 20 A; and
(f) does not incorporate integral pins for insertion into a socket outlet;
but does not include:
(g) an outlet device.
