Notice That Certain Types of Electrical Appliances and Fittings Require a Declaration of Compliance by the Supplier Before Being Offered for Sale

Pursuant to Regulation 101A (1) of the Electricity Regulations 1997, I, Graham Boxall, acting under delegated authority from the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Economic Development, hereby give public notice that the types of electrical appliances and fittings listed in the Schedule require a declaration of compliance by the supplier, from 1 February 2005, before being sold or offered for sale in New Zealand.

All previous public notices given, pursuant to Regulation 101A (1) of the Electricity Regulations 1997, are revoked and substituted by this notice from 1 February 2005.

All valid declarations of compliance made by suppliers for electrical appliances and fittings before 1 February 2005, remain valid after 1 February 2005.

Schedule

1. Appliance Connector—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.1.

2. Arc Welding Machine—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.2.

3. Bayonet Lampholder—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.5.

4. Bayonet Lampholder Adaptor—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.6.

5. Blanket—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.7.

6. Bread Toaster—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.8.

7. Clothes Dryer—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.9 but does not include those appliances that are designed or intended to also use gas.

8. Control or Conditioning Device—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.10.

9. Cooking Appliance – Portable Type—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.11 but does not include those appliances that are designed or intended to also use gas.

10. Cord Extension Socket—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.12.

11. Cord-line Switch—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.13.

12. Decorative Lighting Outfit—An electrical appliance which:
    (a) is for decorative, display or illumination purposes;
    (b) is portable;
    (c) consists of:
    (i) lamps or lampholders interconnected by flexible cord of less than 2.5 square millimetres cross-sectional area; or
    (ii) lamps within a flexible enclosure; and
    (d) may be integral with a frame or similar support;
    and includes:
    (e) any integral power supply or control device.

13. Dishwashing Machine—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.15.

14. Edison Screw Lampholder—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.16.

15. Fan—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.18.

16. Flexible Heating Pad—As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.19.

17. Fluorescent Lamp Ballast—An electrical device which:
    (a) is for controlling the magnitude of current flowing through the discharge path of a fluorescent lamp;
    (b) is of the independent or built-in type intended for use with luminaries (portable or fixed); or
    (c) is of the integral type, rated at 60 watts or less, such that it forms a non-replaceable part of a fluorescent lamp/ballast combination; or
    (d) is of the adaptor type such that it allows the insertion of a fluorescent lamp into the ballast by the user;
    and includes:
    (e) any capacitor incorporated in or supplied with the ballast;
