Amendment of Notice of Direction for Appointment of a Limited Statutory Manager for the Board of Trustees of Te Kura o Matahi (1809)

Pursuant to section 78M of the Education Act 1989, I hereby amend the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, 18 September 2003, page 3575, regarding the direction to appoint a limited statutory manager for Te Kura o Matahi Board of Trustees.

The following functions, powers and duties of the board are to be vested in the limited statutory manager:

● Ensuring areas of improvement identified in the June 2004 Education Review Office report are actioned;

● board organisation and management;

● employment powers of the board; and

● financial management.

The limited statutory manager must also advise the board on the following:

● Strategic planning and school wide self-review.

This notice takes effect the day after the date of publication.

Notice of Appointment of a Limited Statutory Manager for the Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Otara (4205)

Pursuant to section 78M of the Education Act 1989, I direct the Secretary for Education to appoint a limited statutory manager for Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Otara Board of Trustees because of risks to the operation of the school.

The following functions, powers and duties of the board are vested in the limited statutory manager:

● Financial management of the kura.

The limited statutory manager must also advise the board on the following matters:

● Financial planning and decision making;

● development and review of financial policies and procedures;

● meeting the legal obligations of the board particularly as identified by the 2004 Education Review Office report; and

● ensuring that financial decisions contribute to quality curriculum delivery.

This notice takes effect the day after the date of publication.

Reappointment and Appointment to the Health Research Council

Pursuant to section 8 (1) (a) of the Health Research Council Act 1990, I reappoint Professor Jane Harding as a member of the Health Research Council;

and, pursuant to section 8 (1) (b) of the Health Research Council Act 1990, I appoint Aroha Hudson as a member of the Health Research Council.

These appointments take effect for a three-year term from 21 October 2004.
