Grant of Right to Māori in Respect of Ancestral Burial Grounds Within a Historic Reserve
Road Realignment—State Highway No. 6A, Queenstown, Queenstown Lakes District
Under the Reserves Act 1977, the Conservator for the Bay
of Plenty Conservancy of the Department of Conservation
grants representatives of Ngati Awa iwi the right to bury the
bones of unknown deceased Māori that were unearthed in
Matata in October 2003, in the ancestral burial ground
situated within the boundaries of the Kaokaoroa Historic
Reserve described in the Schedule.
Pursuant to the Public Works Act 1981, and to a delegation
from the Minister for Land Information, Ronald Alistair
Jolly, Land Information New Zealand:
(a) Pursuant to section 20, declares that, pursuant to
an agreement to that effect having been entered into, the
land described in the First Schedule to this notice is acquired
for road which, pursuant to section 88 (2) of the Transit
New Zealand Act 1989, becomes road, limited access road
and State highway and shall vest in the Crown on the date of
publication of this notice in the New Zealand Gazette.
(b) Pursuant to sections 116 and 117, declares the
portion of road adjoining or passing through the land
described in the Second Schedule to this notice to be
stopped and, pursuant to section 120 (3), amalgamated
with the land in Computer Register OT11A/1071, subject
to mortgage 5629274.2.

Declaration that Land is a Reserve
Under the Reserves Act 1977, the Acting Community
Relations Manager of the Canterbury Conservancy of the
Department of Conservation notifies that the following
resolution was passed by the Hurunui District Council on
22 April 2004:
“That in exercise of the powers conferred on it by
section 14 of the Reserves Act 1977, the Hurunui
District Council hereby resolves that the piece of land
held by the Hurunui District Council in fee simple, and
described in the Schedule, shall be and the same is
hereby declared to be a local purpose (community use)
reserve within the meaning of the Reserves Act 1977.”
