Education Act 1989

Notice of Appointment of a Limited Statutory Manager at Whakaki School (2735)

Pursuant to section 78M of the Education Act 1989, I direct the Secretary for Education to appoint a limited statutory manager for Whakaki School (2735) because of risks to the operation of the school, governance of the board of trustees, and the future viability of the school.

The following functions, powers and duties of the board are vested in the limited statutory manager:

  • Management of the principal appointment process;
  • assistance for the board in meeting the new planning and reporting requirements;
  • to address the outstanding actions in the Education Review Office report of November 2001, particularly in reporting on student achievement and performance appraisal; and
  • co-ordination of training, advice and guidance in the governance roles and responsibilities for the newly appointed board of trustees.

The limited statutory manager must also advise the board on the following:

  • The induction of the new principal into the school and its community;
  • development of the special character of the school; and
  • any matters arising from the above issues.

The following conditions apply to the exercising of the powers of the board and the limited statutory manager:

  • The powers of the limited statutory manager shall be exercised in consultation with the board; and
  • the parents and wider community must be kept informed of progress.

This notice takes effect the day after the date of publication of this notice.

Pursuant to section 154 of the Education Act 1989, I hereby declare that Kiwi Street School (2381), Wanganui, will close on 18 July 2003, and will cease to be established on that day.

Supplementary Integration Agreement

Pursuant to section 10 of the Private Schools Conditional Integration Act 1975, notice is given that a supplementary integration agreement has been signed between the Minister of Education on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, acting through the Senior Manager, National Operations, Ministry of Education, pursuant to delegated authority, and the proprietor of the following school:

Woodford House, Havelock North.

The said supplementary integration agreement was executed on 8 July 2003.

A copy of the supplementary integration agreement is available for inspection without charge by any member of the public at the local office of the Ministry of Education, Bower Building, 19 Bower Street, Napier.
