NORTH CANTERBURY FISH AND GAME REGION

  1. DEFINITIONS

The North Canterbury Fish and Game Region is divided into 2 zones:

Eastern zone”: The area to the east of a line extending from the white posts on the Rakaia River (near the Coleridge Power Station), to the confluence of the Staircase Stream and the Waimakariri River (above Woodstock), to the Oxford-Glentui Road Bridge on the Ashley River, to the junction of the Hurunui River with the South Branch, to the junction of the Waiau and Hope Rivers; and excluding Lake Rubicon.

Western zone”: The area to the west of the eastern zone plus Lake Rubicon.

  1. OPEN SEASON

Except as closed under 3.1 or restricted elsewhere in the notice.

2.1 Main Season:

  • All other rivers and lakes in the eastern zone.

  • Kaiapoi River upstream of the Cust Main Drain and Ohaka Streams.

  • All other rivers in the western zone for trout fishing.

  • Broken River and its tributaries (incl Winding Creek, Porter River and Slovens Creek) for trout fishing.

  • The Rakaia River and tributaries in the western zone for trout fishing.

  • The Wilberforce Diversion (including the Wilberforce Canal and Oakden Canal) for trout fishing.

  • All rivers and their tributaries flowing into western zone lakes.

  • All western zone lakes.

    1 Oct – 30 Apr
    2 Nov – 31 Mar
    1 Oct – 31 Mar
    1 Dec – 31 Mar
    1 Dec – 31 Mar
    2 Nov – 30 Apr

2.2 Winter Season—1 June to 31 August:

  • Ashley River in the eastern zone.
  • Avon River.
  • Cam River downstream from the motorway bridge.
  • Halswell Canal downstream of the Duck Pond Road Bridge.
  • Halswell River downstream of the Seabridge Road Bridge.
  • Heathcote River.
  • Hurunui River in the eastern zone.
  • Kaiapoi Lakes.
  • Kaiapoi River downstream of the confluence of the Cust Main Drain and Ohoka Streams.
  • Lake Coleridge except within 200m of any inflowing stream.
  • Lake Forsyth.
  • Loch Katrine except within 200m of any inflowing stream.
  • Lake Lyndon except within 200m of any inflowing stream.
  • Lake Pearson except within 200m of any inflowing stream.
  • Lake Selfe except within 200m of any inflowing stream.
  • Lake Sumner except within 200m of any inflowing stream.
